GOOD TO KNOW

A guide to Greenhouses

Choosing greenhouses

  • Footprint and access. Measure the frame footprint, door opening and space needed for paths or shelves. Overall height does not describe the usable space beside a curved roof.
  • Cover and ventilation. Compare the stated cover material and the position of vents and doors. Check how the cover attaches and whether replacement covers are listed separately.
  • Base and anchoring. Check the supplied frame, base and fixing requirements against the intended surface. Do not infer wind resistance from the frame appearance.

Comparing options

Plan the layout with plants, shelving and a route for watering and maintenance. Compare usable interior space and openings with the exterior footprint. Read the anchoring requirements for the surface on which the structure will stand.

Questions about Greenhouses

What size greenhouse should I choose?
Allow for mature plants, watering access and a walkway as well as the exterior footprint. Compare door height and usable shelf space on the individual listing.
Does every greenhouse include a base?
No single inclusion applies to the whole category. Check the package contents for a base, anchors and shelves before choosing installation materials.
