A guide to Ottomans & Footstools

Choosing ottomans & footstools

  • Height and clearance. Match seat height to the worktop or table and check clearance for arms and knees.
  • Fit and adjustment. Compare seat width, depth, back support and the adjustments actually specified.
  • Placement and care. Check the footprint, stated load rating and upholstery or surface-care requirements.

Comparing options

Match the seating to both the user and the setting. Seat dimensions, arms and adjustments affect fit, while the base and any reclining movement affect the room footprint. Compare the stated material-care requirements.
